As we step into the new year, I want to start by sharing something deeply personal—my entrepreneurial struggles and growth as a solo entrepreneur. Like many small business owners, particularly crocheters, I face the challenge of building a sustainable business in uncertain times. Relying solely on sales to finance my lifestyle has not been easy, and there are days when the weight of not having a regular income feels overwhelming.
My financial goal for my crochet business has been clear, yet I find myself falling short. This realization has forced me to confront fears I never anticipated: the fear of not earning quickly enough, the fear of uncertainty without the security of a traditional job, and the fear of failure. These feelings are real, and I know I am not alone in experiencing them. However, I refuse to let fear hold me back.

A Shift in Perspective
One of the hardest lessons I have learned through my entrepreneurial struggles and growth is that having the right tools and strategies is not always enough. Sometimes, it is our mindset that becomes the barrier to progress. For me, it is about overcoming fear and embracing the reality that growth takes time. Success does not come overnight, and the journey is often filled with setbacks and challenges.
Despite the rough patch I am going through, I am determined to press forward. My focus for 2025 is to adopt a growth-oriented mental perspective. This means:
1. Setting SMART Goals: I will create specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals for my business to give me clarity and direction.
2. Staying Consistent: Progress requires daily effort, and I am committed to showing up for my business, even on the hard days.
3. Being Open to Change: If something is not working, I will not hesitate to research, learn, and implement new strategies.
It’s Okay to Pivot When Facing Entrepreneurial Struggles
One of the most important lessons I want to share with my fellow entrepreneurs is this: it is okay to pivot. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, a business or strategy may not yield the results we want. In those moments, we must be brave enough to consider alternatives.
Pivoting might mean taking on a part-time job, changing your business model, or exploring new income streams. It is not a failure. Instead, it is a responsible decision that reflects your ability to adapt. Bills need to be paid, families need to be supported, and life does not pause for our entrepreneurial dreams. Letting go of what is not working is not giving up—it is making room for what could work better.
Following Your Heart
At the end of the day, the journey is yours to navigate, and no one else can walk it for you. Entrepreneurship is deeply personal, and what works for someone else may not align with your values, goals, or circumstances. It is essential to tune out the noise, ignore the opinions of others, and focus on what truly matters to you and your family.
Whether that means doubling down on your business, exploring new income streams, or even stepping away temporarily to focus on other priorities, trust your instincts. You know your needs, strengths, and limitations better than anyone else. Taking a step back to reassess or choosing an unconventional path does not mean you are giving up—it means you are being honest with yourself and making decisions that support your well-being and long-term success.
Sometimes, following your heart means taking risks or venturing into the unknown, and that can feel daunting. But when your choices are rooted in your values and vision for the future, they have the power to lead you toward a more fulfilling and balanced life. Trust in the process, and remember that your journey is unique—it doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s to be meaningful and successful.
Reflecting and Resetting for Growth
As we welcome 2025, let us all take a moment to reflect on the past year. What worked? What didn’t? What lessons have we learned? Use this time to reset your goals and make necessary adjustments. Let go of what no longer serves you and embrace the opportunity to start fresh.
Entrepreneurial struggles and growth require resilience, adaptability, and an open mind. To my fellow crocheters, small business owners, and solo entrepreneurs: you are not alone. These are perilous times, but persistence and an open heart will carry us through.
Let’s make 2025 a year of growth, resilience, and joy. Remember, success is not just about achieving financial goals—it is also about living a life that is fulfilling, healthy, and aligned with your values.
