Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned crocheter, there’s something in here for everyone. Let’s get started!
What’s In This Article:
Easy Crochet Bikini Top: A Beginner-Friendly Guide
The Easy Crochet Bikini Top is perfect for anyone looking for a quick and straightforward project. This beginner-friendly tutorial walks you through creating an adjustable bikini top with gorgeous shell stitches that add a touch of elegance. The coverage is customizable, making it suitable for all sizes.
It was created using a 2.5mm hook and medium-weight yarn, needing only half a skein (50g) to complete the top. The main stitch used is the half-double crochet (HDC), which provides a smooth texture and neat finish. Check out the full tutorial here to get started!

Showcasing my Version of the Bikini Top
I had so much fun crafting two versions of this bikini top! The delicate shell stitches bring the piece to life, and the HDC stitch ensures durability while maintaining a lightweight feel. Whether you’re making it for yourself or as a gift, this top is a versatile addition to your crochet repertoire.
Crochet High-Waist Bikini Bottom: Stylish & Functional
The Crochet High-Waist Bikini Bottom is another beginner-friendly gem from this talented tutor. This design combines the half-double crochet (HDC) and X stitch, resulting in a stylish and functional piece that’s easily adjustable for all sizes.
The simplicity of the HDC stitch pairs perfectly with the intricate X stitch, giving this bottom a sleek yet textured look. It’s quick to make and suitable for crocheters of all skill levels. Watch the tutorial here and try it out!

Showcasing my Version of the Bikini Bottom
I also enjoyed experimenting with the X stitch while making this bikini bottom. It adds such a unique touch to the design while keeping the piece snug and secure. This is a great project if you are looking to expand your skills or create something eye-catching for summer or beach trips.
Classic Crochet Thread Version
I also made a version with classic crochet thread – size 10. I love working with threads so I couldn’t avoid making this version to see the outcome. *Smiles*
For those who prefer a more classic look, I also crocheted a version using white crochet thread. Doubling the thread helped to create a thicker, more substantial fabric while maintaining the delicate look of the white color.

To ensure the fit was accurate, I followed the tutorial guidelines while adjusting the number of rows as needed to achieve the desired measurements. For the bikini bottom, I aimed for a crotch area of 3 inches, a next area of 8 inches, and an x-stitch section of 4 inches. This adjustment process may require some trial and error, so don’t be afraid to experiment and make adjustments as you go.
For this version, I would recommend using a thin lining from the crotch up to the start of the x-stitches for privacy purposes.
Mastering the Difference Between SC and HDC
One of the keys to mastering crochet is understanding the differences between stitches. It took me a while to distinguish the single crochet (SC) and the half-double crochet (HDC), as they can look quite similar.
If you have ever felt the same, don’t worry! Here’s a helpful video guide that clearly explains the difference between these two foundational stitches. This insight will help you tackle projects like these bikini pieces with more confidence.
Materials for Your Easy Crochet Bikini Set
The materials for this crochet bikini set are simple and versatile, making it an ideal project for crocheters of all levels. The tutor, AC Crochet, used medium-weight yarn paired with a 2.5mm hook. For my version, I followed the same weight yarn but decided to experiment with different hook sizes to test the texture and gauge.
I used a size 4 hook for the gold set, creating a slightly looser texture, and a 2mm hook for a carrot-colored bikini bottom, resulting in a tighter stitch. This variation helped me understand how hook size can influence the overall look and fit of the design.
