Gifting myself a beautiful crochet swimwear top for Valentine’s Day. Yeaaahhhhh!!
For years, I have crocheted swimwear for my relatives, friends, and customers, pouring my time and creativity into making beautiful handmade pieces for others. Yet, I never took the time to create something just for me. That changes today! I finally decided to gift myself with a gorgeous crochet bandana mesh top—a stunning and modest swimwear piece perfect for my beach days.
This journey of self-gifting is not just about making a top; it is about self-love, self-care, and celebrating the joy of creating. Whether you are a crocheter or not, I encourage you to do something nice for yourself every once in a while. You deserve it!

Embracing My Role as My Own Crochet Model
As I mentioned in my last blog post, I am stepping into a new role—becoming my own model! Each month, I will be designing and creating crochet swimwear pieces tailored for women like me: women who appreciate style, elegance, and a touch of modesty while embracing the beauty of handmade craftsmanship.
I plan to take myself on solo trips to the beach, river, or pool to capture the essence of confidence and joy through pictures and videos. This is my way of celebrating both my creativity and the beauty of wearing something made with love and intention.
The Inspiration Behind My Bandana Crochet Mesh Top
This exquisite bandana crochet mesh top was inspired by a tutorial from the talented Shyler Crochet on YouTube. Her designs are always so elegant, and when I saw this one, I knew I had to make it for myself. If you want to try making this top, you can check out her tutorial here.
Although Shyler Crochet used different materials, I made some adjustments to suit my personal preferences. I love working with crochet thread because of the neat and polished finish it provides. For this piece, I chose Aunt Lydia’s white and burgundy crochet thread classic 10, which I doubled to achieve the desired thickness and structure.

Soft and beautiful V-Stitch for my Crochet Swimwear Top
I especially adore how the V Stitch on the bandana section turned out—it adds the perfect touch of elegance to this swimwear top. To achieve the ideal tension and stitch definition, I used a 2mm crochet hook, ensuring a beautiful and comfortable fit.
Why Gifting Yourself is Important
While making this top, I realized that it is so easy to get caught up in creating for others that we sometimes forget to treat ourselves. Crocheters (and creatives in general) often put their time and energy into fulfilling orders, making gifts for loved ones, or crafting for special occasions. But how often do we pause and create something just for us?
This top represents more than just beachwear—it symbolizes self-love, creativity, and the joy of doing something for myself. It is a reminder that we deserve to enjoy the fruits of our labor and celebrate our talents.
I want to encourage you, whether you crochet or not, to take time for yourself. Treat yourself to something special. Maybe it is a handmade garment, a relaxing spa day, a solo coffee date, or a new book. Whatever it is, do it for you!
Future Plans: A Complete Crochet Swimwear Set
Now that I have made this lovely bandana crochet mesh top, I am already thinking about the perfect matching bottoms. A pair of white V-Stitch crochet shorts would be an ideal addition to complete the swimwear set. I can already picture how stylish and sophisticated the entire outfit will look! Stay tuned because I will definitely be documenting my trip to the beach in this gorgeous ensemble.
