Why Crochet Swimwear?
Living in beautiful Jamaica, the beach, rivers, and pools are a huge part of life. But honestly, I have always been a little shy about putting myself out there in swimwear. I wanted something fashionable, something that made me feel sexy and confident, but also something that felt modest and comfortable. Finding that perfect balance in store-bought swimwear has always been a struggle, especially as I’ve gotten older. Now in my 50s, my priorities have shifted—I want to feel amazing in my skin while staying true to myself.
Then it hit me: I have the skills! I can create exactly what I want to wear—swimwear that flatters my figure, reflects my style, and makes me feel fantastic. And that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
A Childhood Memory That Inspired My Confidence
This journey of self-expression didn’t just begin today. It started when I was about 10 years old, back in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland. I was part of a wonderful community social club held at Mr. Radcliffe Dennis’ property on Lewis Street, which is now owned by Restaurants of Jamaica (KFC).
One day, he introduced the idea of a pageant for kids, and to my surprise, he spoke to my mother about entering me. At the time, I was tall, skinny, and pretty, and he saw something in me that I hadn’t even fully recognized in myself. My mother agreed, and I was thrilled at the thought of participating. I imagined myself walking confidently, dressed beautifully, and embracing the moment. However, for reasons I can’t recall, the pageant never happened.
Though it never came to life, the idea stayed with me (unconsciously). And now, decades later, I find myself reconnecting with that spark of confidence and self-expression.
Creating My Own Swimwear to Celebrate Confidence
I am no longer that skinny little girl, but I am vibrant, full of life, and excited about embracing my confidence in a new way. While I have no desire to enter pageants, I am now inspired to create my version of self-expression—one that aligns with who I am today.
That’s why I have decided to embark on a journey of well-being, self-confidence, and creativity. This means taking better care of my health, working on my fitness, and shedding a little weight—not to fit into a societal standard but to feel my best. It also means fully embracing my love for crochet and using my own body as a canvas to showcase the beauty of My Crochet Swimwear.
Modeling My Crochet Swimwear
I will be my own model, creating and wearing stunning yet modest crochet swimwear pieces. I plan to take myself out to the beach, the river, or the pool, capturing the essence of confidence and joy through pictures and videos.

A Tribute to Mr. Dennis
As I take this bold step forward, I want to take a moment to thank the late Mr. Dennis. Though that childhood pageant never happened, he planted a seed in me that has remained for decades. His belief in me, even as a little girl, has come full circle, inspiring me to confidently step into this new chapter of my life. I will always be grateful for his vision and the way it continues to influence me today.
