Relaxed Breathing: What Fever Grass and Ginger Tea Did for Me

Earlier this week, I shared one of my favourite herbal tea blends that supports relaxed breathing: Fever Grass and Ginger Tea.

In that post, I talked about the traditional uses of both herbs, why so many Jamaicans continue to appreciate them, and my hope of eventually adding fever grass to my container garden. But as the week went on and I continued enjoying the tea, I noticed something that inspired a different kind of reflection.

Sometimes the most meaningful wellness observations are not dramatic. They are subtle. They are the small things you notice when you slow down long enough to pay attention.

For me, one of those observations this week was how relaxed my breathing felt after several days of drinking Fever Grass and Ginger Tea. That quiet realisation stayed with me.

Please note: I am not making any medical claims. Everything I share here is personal experience and reflection, not medical advice. Always consult your healthcare provider for any health concerns.

A Little Background

Years ago, I experienced a respiratory health challenge that changed the way I think about wellness. While I do not talk about it often, it was one of the experiences that encouraged me to become more intentional about what I eat, drink, and bring into my daily routines.

When something affects your health, it often shifts your perspective. You stop taking certain things for granted. You become more aware of your body. You pay closer attention to how you feel.

And over time, you learn that wellness is often found in the small, consistent choices you make each day. This week reminded me of that.

Paying Attention to the Small Things

One of the lessons I continue to learn on my wellness journey is that not every improvement announces itself loudly. Sometimes there is no dramatic breakthrough. Sometimes there is simply a moment when you realise: I feel a little better today.

That was my experience this week.

After several days of drinking Fever Grass and Ginger Tea, I found myself noticing how comfortable and relaxed my breathing felt. Not something I had to think about. Just easy, natural, relaxed breathing. The kind you appreciate more when you have not always taken it for granted.

And because of my experience, I have learned not to ignore those moments. I have learned to appreciate them. I have learned to be grateful for them.

In a world that often encourages us to chase quick fixes and dramatic results, there is something powerful about simply noticing when your body feels supported.

Why I Believe Awareness Matters

One of the reasons I enjoy herbal wellness is that it encourages awareness. When I prepare herbal tea, I am not just consuming something. I am participating in a ritual. I am slowing down. I am checking in with myself and asking simple questions: How am I feeling today? What does my body need? What feels supportive right now?

That awareness has become one of the most valuable parts of my wellness journey. Whether I am drinking green mint, guinea hen weed, aloe vera, or a warming blend like Fever Grass and Ginger, the act of preparing tea creates a moment of connection. It reminds me to pause, to listen, and to remember that wellness is not only about what we consume. It is also about the relationship we have with ourselves.

Relaxed breathing, for me, has become one of the quiet signals that I am doing something right.

Wellness Does Not Have to Be Complicated

Sipping my Fever Grass and Ginger tea for relaxed breathing

One of the reasons I loved writing Sunday’s article is that Fever Grass and Ginger Tea is such a simple blend. No expensive ingredients. No complicated instructions. No elaborate wellness routine. Just two familiar herbs and a few quiet moments.

The older I get, the more I appreciate simplicity. Simple meals. Simple routines. Simple pleasures. Simple acts of care.

I think many of us spend so much time looking for the next thing that we overlook what is already available to us: a cup of tea, a walk outside, a few herbs growing in a container, a few minutes of stillness before the day begins. These things may seem small, but they have a way of grounding us. And sometimes that grounding, that sense of ease, that relaxed breathing, is exactly what we need.

My Wellness Journey Continues

I often describe my container garden as both my pharmacy and my classroom. It is where I grow herbs, learn patience, observe nature, and am reminded that growth takes time.

The same is true of wellness. There is no finish line. There is no perfect destination. There is only the ongoing practice of paying attention, making intentional choices, and learning as we go.

This week, Fever Grass and Ginger Tea became another teacher. Not because it provided some miraculous solution, but because it reminded me to notice. To appreciate. To stay connected to my body, and to remain grateful for every small sign of wellness along the way, including something as quiet and beautiful as relaxed, easy breathing.

My Tea Ritual This Week

One thing I have learned is that preparing herbal tea can be just as valuable as drinking it. There is something calming about gathering the herbs, heating the water, and watching the tea slowly come together. For me, those few minutes create space to breathe, reflect, and slow down, and that intentional pause supports relaxed breathing long before the first sip.

I enjoy using a simple glass teapot because it allows me to watch the herbs steep and release their colour, turning an ordinary cup of tea into a small daily ritual.

If you are creating your own herbal tea routine, a quality glass teapot or tea infuser can make the experience even more enjoyable. Here is a list of glass teapots and infusers on Amazon that you can choose from – Amazon Recommendations.

A Final Reflection

This week reminded me that wellness is often found in the quiet moments. Not in dramatic changes, not in complicated routines, but in the simple practices we return to consistently.

For me, that looked like a few days of Fever Grass and Ginger Tea, a little more awareness, and a renewed appreciation for something as simple and profound as relaxed breathing.
